Kun kilpailijoille halutaan taata maksimaalinen rauha ennen suoritusta, valmistellaan ennalta sellainen lähtökäytävä, jossa on tilaa viimeisten valmistelujen tekemiseen ilman tungosta. Selkeällä ja sujuvalla prosessilla taas päästään vaikuttamaan siihen, ettei urheilijan energiaa kulu epäolennaisiin asioihin tärkeällä hetkellä.
“Tätä prosessia on hiottu jo parin vuoden ajan”, kertoo MM-kilpailujen lähtötiimin päällikkö Sirpa Lintunen.
Huippu-urheilussa pienikin asia voi olla ratkaiseva. Siksi tärkeä osa lähdön prosessia on myös se, mitä urheilija ei huomaa. Toimitsijat ovat lähellä ja läsnä tekemässä tarkasti ennalta sovitut asiat, mutta muutoin tiimin tavoite on olla näkymätön.
“Tarvittaessa ollaan siinä saatavilla”, Lintunen lisää. Rauhallisesti ja täsmällisesti huolehditaan kaikki urheilijat häiriöittä matkaan.
Lähdön toimintoja yksityiskohtaisen listan mukaan hoitaa toisilleen tutuista seurakavereista koostuva organisointikykyinen porukka, jossa yhteistyö ja luottamus toimivat hyvin.

Ryhmä on saanut toiminnastaan palautetta kansainväliseltä juryltä, jonka mukaan asiat ovat kunnossa. Suuri osa työstä onkin tehty jo ennen kilpailuviikkoa ja tarvittavat testaukset tehty tositoimissa maailmancupin finaaleissa viime syyskuussa Nilsiän Lastukoskella. Viimeistelyt tehdään yhdessä lähipäivinä.
“Mennään eteenpäin rauhallisesti ja täsmällisesti. Minulla on täysi luottamus tähän vahvasti sitoutuneeseen loistoporukkaan”, Lintunen jatkaa.
Tapahtumaviikko pitää sisällään monta kilpailua ja talkoopäivät tulevat olemaan pitkiä. Aamuisin tehdään paljon töitä ja vielä senkin jälkeen, kun viimeinen lähtee portista.
“Ollaan loppuun saakka ystävällisiä, asiantuntevia ja hyväntuulisia”, avaa Lintunen ryhmänsä vahvuuksia, joilla aikaisemmistakin tehtävistä on selvitty ja jatkaa: Tähän erityiseen ja merkittävään koitokseen suunnataan samalla tavalla.

Start team is ready to support the competitors’ focus – most of the work done in advance
To guarantee competitors maximum peace before their performance, a starting gate is prepared in advance that provides space for last-minute preparations without crowding. A clear and smooth process ensures that the athlete’s energy isn’t wasted on irrelevant matters at a crucial moment.
“This process has been refined for a couple of years now”, says Sirpa Lintunen, head of the WOC2025-start team.
In elite sports, even a small detail can be decisive. That’s why an important part of the start process is also what the athlete doesn’t notice. Officials are close and present, meticulously carrying out pre-arranged tasks, but otherwise, their goal is to be invisible.
“We are there if needed”, Lintunen adds. Calmly and precisely, we ensure all athletes get started without disturbances.
The starting operations are handled according to a detailed list by an organized group of familiar clubmates who work well together and trust each other.
“My team is looking forward to this”.
The group has received feedback on its operations from an international jury, which confirmed that everything is in order. A large part of the work was, in fact, done even before the competition week, and the necessary tests were carried out in real action during the World Cup finals last September in Lastukoski, Nilsiä. The final touches will be made together in the coming days.
“We will proceed calmly and precisely. I have full confidence in this strongly committed and excellent group”, Lintunen continues.
The event week includes many competitions, and the volunteer days will be long. A lot of work is done in the mornings and even after the last competitor leaves the gate.
“Let’s remain friendly, knowledgeable, and in good spirits until the very end”, Lintunen explains, revealing her team’s “superpowers” that have helped them succeed in past tasks and are now directed towards this special and significant challenge.
